60 single-handed racers for the 6th !

3 days before the departure, they are all present, collected together in the Treboul harbour. Next Thursday, on June 3rd, 60 single-handed racers will take a run-up for the 200 sprint miles of the 6th edition of the MAP trophy. Among them, many novices ( or almost novices) of the Mini circuit and some sharpened regulars. Everybody comes here with one aim : to obtain a result and a qualification, to grade regarding the competition, but everyone is also here for the spice of this unique competition...

35 Serie boats and 25 Prototypes are on the starting lines of this 2010 edition of the MAP trophy. A beautiful fleet for a transition year, a year “ without” Transat 6.50 and with an economic crisis background so it is a respectable score for the MAP Trophy. This young eveny of the Mini circuit has indeed become famous among the racers : an intensive and open race because awfully tactical. A regatta of 48 hours where there is no question of sleeping, a competition edge to edge with all the racers. 200 contrasting miles which depend on and are played with the elements : streams, rocks, coast effects ... who can top that ?

A rare competition

Of course, each competitor lined in the row of the 6th MAP trophy has his own aim : to be the best, the qualification ( regarding “ les Sables – les Açores – les Sables ), the grip of scores... Yet, as good competitors, if they are present to compete for this “ rendez-vous” in Douarnenez, it is also for the awful challenge that this return-trip between Douarnenez and the Birvideaux represents.

“The MAP trophy will be the first time for me. I’m really excited to discover this course I often heard about : a lot of bouncing, coast effects and harsh streams you have to negociate with. It attracts me because it sounds completely different with the size of races we usually know.”, Nicolas Boidevezi noticed ( Defi GDE), both a novice and one of the favourites of the event in Proto.

For Vincent Kerbouriou ( Tchuda Popka), from Angers, registered for the Douarnenez Pole and new on the Mini Circuit, the race is going to be sharp and harsh : “ it is a very technical race with especially the crossing of the “ Raz de Sein”, of the Audierne Bay... and until now, this is a short time race which makes it more difficult on the strategical deal. It is also a short event so a very tired one.”

An efficient fleet and some new skippers

An open game, a course where everything can change, however subjected to the fact it is rather swift and audacious if possible...

A game where we logically will find some favourites where the action is with, in Serie boats especially David Beaudart and his Pogo “ Nauty Mor”, winner of the MAP trophy 2007. The experienced Antoine Debled (regionjob.com) regularly on the top ten for 5 years. Bruno Simonet (El nono), winner of the Pornichet Select this year.

In prototype, the new winner of the Mini Pavois, the german Jorg Riechers ( mare.de) aims at the podium. Nicolas Boidevezi ( Défi GDE) 3rd of the Mini Pavois 2010, is determined to as he said “ faire parler la poudre”. Sébastien Rogues ( Eole Generation- GDF Suez) winner of the MAP trophy 2009 in Serie comes back, humbly taking the helm of the “plan Lombard” of Henry-paul Shipman, but with the will to stay among the favourites. Véronique Loisel ( De l’espace pour la mer ) starts on the Mini Circuit 2010.

Guillaume Le Brec ( Eva Luna ) from that moment on taking the helm of the old plan Finot- conq of Thomas Ruyant. Etienne David ( Team Work )  and his plan Manuard, second of the Mini Pavois 2010

Sébastien Picault ( Kickers ) sails this season between Figaro and Mini, improves himself with additional experiences.

And all the others... In the end, sharpened sailors, others in quest of experience and a beautiful fleet of boats which have already won its spurs, but not always with the same skippers aboard. The deal changes, but the assets either human or technic are still the same, the result will inevitably be instructive with, as a bonus, no doubt confirmations and certainly revelations of new talents.

On land, it has already begun !

Finally, so that the race will be completely successful, the whole team of voluntary workers of the Winches Club is already put to work for several days. Their experience is also going to be at stake, but it is their kindness above all will highlight the festival which will occur on the Treboul harbour : “ there is an incredible astmosphere in Douarnenez ! It is part of the race !” Paul Marette ( Region Nord Pas de Calais ) exclaimed. It is the same Nicolas Boidevezi thinks about the atmosphere there : “ I’m very pleased to meet up again with the team of the Winches Club, we always come back hastily there !”

In a word, for the atmosphere “ offshore race on a mini” it begins from today until Saturday on the Treboul harbour. For the spice of the competition, see you on June 3rd at 11:30 am for the beginning of this 6th edition of the MAP trophy.
